Business Development Manager – 12 Month FTC

Purpose
The primary responsibility of this role is to carry out business development activities for the Capital Markets and Finance practices area and clients.
The Business Development Manager will:
- Manage and proactively execute the Practice Group Plans for the applicable practice area(s).
- Manage a number of global key clients.
- Lead on client feedback initiatives.
- Work closely with BD colleagues in the US/EMEA region.
- Identify and communicate new business opportunities.
- Lead the preparation of credentials, presentations and pitches.
- Create products and touchpoints to be used with clients and targets.
- Facilitate communication between partners within practices, industry groups or offices.
- Support cross-selling initiatives.
- Plan and support BD events (seminars, webinars, and dinners) and other growth generation activities within the practice groups.
- Lead and contribute to pan-EMEA business development projects and initiatives.
Major Tasks
Practice Support
- Develop and execute EMEA Practice group plan(s).
- Develop and maintain key messages, marketing materials standard slides, credentials and pitch materials for key practices.
- Analyse and track key clients and targets.
- Lead and advance cross-selling efforts to optimize opportunities and foster client relationships.
- Lead the organisation of partner meetings, including preparing agendas, documenting actions and following-up on actions agreed.
- Pro-actively identify opportunities for profile raising and thought-leadership initiatives and work closely with the Marketing Communications and PR teams.
- Lead/coordinate awards and submissions work within the PGs.
Pitch Support
- Supervise the preparation of credentials and pitches, tailoring materials for individual clients.
- Support partners in the preparation of pitch meetings, rehearsals, etc.
- Ensure that standard text and materials for pitches and bios are stored and tracked.
- Ensure consistency of pitch material and seek improvements in quality.
- Support client presentations.
- Share best practice within the EMEA BD team.
Client Relationship Management
- Act as Client Manager on up to 3 of firm’s key clients.
- Lead on client feedback initiatives.
- Analyse data on clients, people and markets working together with the Global Competitive Research Team.
- Keep partners informed of developments at key clients, offering a strategic perspective.
- Create products and touchpoints to be used with clients.
- Manage data held on key clients, especially on the CRM system (Dynamics) and client development meeting databases.
Client Event
- Identify speaking opportunities in line with the objectives of the practice or to promote individual lawyers.
- Have a good understanding of relevant event organizers.
- Supervise the creation of invitee lists.
- Create project plan for event.
- Assist with reporting and follow-up activities.
Marketing and Communication
- Work with the Marketing and PR team on the implementation of the relevant objectives from the Practice Group plan.
- Work with the PR/Media team on promotion of publications/client reports.
- Support and advise lawyers regarding the publication of articles or speaking engagements.
- Oversee contact lists and mailing lists for key clients and practices.
- Support on promotion via social media channels.
Skills and Competencies
Education/Experience
- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
- A minimum of seven years’ business development experience in an international law firm or professional services environment.

- Excellent knowledge of the applicable practice area sector.
