February 19, 2025

Cleary announced today that David Herman joined the firm as a partner in the U.S. Real Estate Group, advising on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions across the full spectrum of asset classes.

“We are delighted to welcome David and his team to Cleary,” said Cleary Managing Partner Michael Gerstenzang. “David is highly regarded in the industry and is known for spearheading some of the largest and most groundbreaking transactions of recent years. He brings with him a wealth of experience in real estate transactions, expanding on the high-level capabilities of the Cleary real estate group.”

Joining David’s team are Partner Sam Limmer and Counsel Cindy Resnick. Their practice focuses on counseling clients, including some of the nation’s premier real estate firms, on joint ventures, financings, restructurings, mergers and acquisitions and more.

“There is perhaps no greater testament to David’s amazing work than the deep relationships he has built and maintains with his clients,” said Dan Reynolds, leader of the U.S. Real Estate Group at Cleary. “Whether they are real estate firms or private equity sponsors, clients know that when they work with David and his team, they are getting outstanding service and counsel.”

“Cleary’s emphasis on cross-practice collaboration is crucial in this ever-shifting commercial real estate market,” said David. “It allows us to provide continuous service across transactions, find optimal and innovative solutions to matters, and deepen our relationships with clients.”

Over his more than two decades in the industry, David has advised clients in transactions totaling more than $100 billion. This includes working with Lehman Brothers in connection with its bankruptcy – the largest and most complex bankruptcy in U.S. history – and the subsequent restructuring of its real estate portfolio. David also worked with Brookfield in its purchase of U.S. mall operator GGP Inc. and the asset manager’s separate $11.4 billion deal to take over Forest City Realty Trust Inc.

Sam represents real estate-focused entities, including developers, operators, private equity firms, REITs, financial institutions, and special servicers. He has advised clients on a broad range of transactions across the U.S. involving multifamily, office, film studio, retail, hospitality and gaming, life sciences, residential, industrial, and condominium properties and portfolios.

Cindy represents major institutions, developers, private equity funds, servicers and other real estate owners, and investors in a broad range of real estate-related transactions.

Prior to joining Cleary, David was the co-head of the U.S. real estate practice for more than a decade at an international law firm, where he worked closely with Sam and Cindy.
