Paris Finance Manager
Reporting to the Global Controller, the Paris Finance Manager is responsible for the daily operations of the firm’s Paris Accounting team, which oversees the general ledger, accounts payable, cash receipts, payroll, and local tax filings.
Key relationships: Global Controller, CFO, Brussels Finance Manager, Paris Partners, Paris Management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of 5 Accountants and Specialists.
- Develop an effective relationship with the Global Controller, Chief Financial Officer and other Firm Leaders.
- Develop an effective “business partner” relationship with Finance Managers in Europe and Asia.
- Mentor and develop the accounting team. Review staff capabilities and recommend improvements and development plans.
- Ensure the accuracy of the firm’s general accounting in compliance with local accounting & tax rules as well as global accounting policies, pursuant to global monthly close deadlines, using the Aderant ERP.
- Review bank account reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations.
- Oversee timely and effective Paris payroll process, including: ADP software management, finance and banking systems integration, and payment.
- Oversee timely and effective vendor and expense payment processing through the Chrome River system.
- Ensure timely and accurate execution of payments. Ensure bank account paperwork, including authorized signers, is current.
- Ensure a timely and effective cash receipts process, which includes applying client and general office receipts.
- Monitor fixed assets (Sage) and work in progress, accurately capturing additions and retirements and depreciation.
- Supervise the current tax and VAT returns.
- Assess, rationalize, and document best-practice accounting processes
- Analyze and validate financial information, including revenue, expense, net income, headcount, etc., for the Paris office.
- Prepare and review the annual budget for the Paris office, including operating expense budget, while collaborating with others to estimate headcount and capital expenditures.
- Key member of Aderant systems enhancements and upgrades.
- Oversee and execute specific projects as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
Ideal Experience:
- Experience in a similar senior role at a professional services firm.
- Broad financial experience, including working on a multi-national team, financial analysis and financial systems.
- Experience in implementing procedural improvements, internal controls and financial practice management systems enhancements.
- Strong accounting/finance skills and academic credentials.
- History of strong written analysis including summarizing large amounts of data into concise explanations.
- At least 5-7 years of managerial experience. Chartered Accountancy required.
Critical Competencies for Success / Other Characteristics:
- Fluency in French and English, both written and oral, is required.
- Broad finance acumen in the area of French accounting and tax.
- An excellent communicator who is effective at all levels; an individual who is well organized, establishes priorities, plans realistically and is available to work as needed to meet deadlines; a person who builds effective working relationships with key members of the Firm.
- ERP experience (use of Aderant a plus) / Excel knowledge.
