February 3, 2015

Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton announced today that Peter Olds, former legal director at Actis, will join the London office on February 9, 2015, as counsel.

Peter joined Actis, a private equity firm investing exclusively in Africa, Asia and Latin America, in 2009. Peter was previously a senior associate in Clifford Chance’s Private Funds Group, where he specialised in private equity, real estate and infrastructure fundraising. Prior to that, he was a senior associate at Freehills in Sydney. Peter has a Bachelor of Law with first class honours and a Bachelor of Arts with distinction from the University of Technology, Sydney.

“We are delighted to welcome Peter to the firm,” comments London Cleary Gottlieb partner Simon Jay. “He brings a fantastic wealth of knowledge and significant experience in fund establishment and operation. Peter’s appointment complements our existing strengths and reflects the growth of our practice in London.”

New York Cleary Gottlieb partner Michael Gerstenzang comments: “We are fortunate to have a funds lawyer with Peter’s depth of experience in fund formation, as well as with the numerous challenges of managing funds in an increasingly complex regulatory and commercial environment. We look forward to having Peter join our global fund formation practice, which includes senior lawyers in New York, Asia and London, and working with us to support our clients around the world.”

Peter Olds comments: “I am thrilled to join a firm of Cleary Gottlieb’s stature and outstanding client base. The firm has an outstanding international reputation in private fund formation, and I am really looking forward to taking the firm’s offering in London to the next level.”
