Land Trust Alliance Creates Carbon Offset Pilot Programs

Cleary Gottlieb represented the Land Trust Alliance (LTA) in forming two pilot programs with carbon offset project developers.
These pilot programs will enable LTA’s members to monetize their conservation efforts by selling carbon offsets, generated through improved forest management and the avoided conversion of grasslands, respectively. The unique programs facilitate access to the voluntary carbon markets for land trusts who otherwise may have been unable to participate, given the size of their land holdings.
The agreements were executed on July 17, 2020, and August 18, 2020, respectively.
LTA is a national leader in conservation policy and a voice for more than 1,700 member land trusts across the United States.
