Six of the firm’s lawyers were honored with The Legal Aid Society’s 2024 Pro Bono Publico Awards at a recent event.
This year, The Legal Aid Society recognized Cleary partner Roger Cooper and associates Rodnika Carter, Jessica Cuddihy, Olivia Everton, and Abby Shamray for their work on a wide range of pro bono legal matters, including drafting and filing an amicus brief in the New York Supreme Court’s Appellate Division in the matter of NYCLU v. City of Rochester and Rochester Police Department, in support of petitioner-appellees who are seeking the release of certain police disciplinary records via FOIL request in light of the recent repeal of Section 50-a of the NY Civil Rights Law.
Cleary associate Jillian Moss was also recognized for her contributions as this year’s Cleary Gottlieb Fellow with The Legal Aid Society’s Criminal Defense Unit. The Cleary Gottlieb Fellowship Program places associates at legal services organizations, including The Legal Aid Society, to provide critically needed legal work to underserved communities.
Cleary has partnered with The Legal Aid Society, the U.S.’s oldest and largest legal services organization, for more than 25 years.
