March 29, 2007

Cleary Gottlieb won M&A Deal of the Year and swept honors in the Equity category, winning both Deal and Team of the Year at the International Financial Law Review’s Americas Awards 2007 dinner. Cleary Gottlieb earned the M&A honor for representing CVRD on its successful $17.7 billion bid for Canada’s Inco, creating the world’s second largest mining company and the biggest acquisition by a Latin American company. IFLR praised this deal for “being the largest emerging markets loan financing ever at the time, for being put together at record speed and for transforming the borrower into a global player.”

Cleary Gottlieb advised the underwriters in Mastercard’s $2.6 billion IPO, recognized by IFLR as U.S. IPO of the Year. IFLR commended the transaction for “overcoming structural complexities and operational hurdles.” Cleary Gottlieb was also honored as Equity Team of the Year based on the firm’s work on the Mastercard IPO and the $962 million IPO of Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico, Latin America’s biggest IPO in 2006.
