Ahold Delhaize to Join Eurelec

Cleary Gottlieb is representing Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize N.V. (Ahold Delhaize) in its accession to Eurelec Trading SC (Eurelec), alongside the French retailer E. Leclerc and the German retailer REWE.

Eurelec is a European joint purchasing alliance created in 2016 by E. Leclerc and REWE. Eurelec focuses on negotiating and buying branded fast-moving consumer goods from large, multinational manufacturers. With Ahold Delhaize’s accession, Eurelec will integrate the negotiation and purchasing of A-brands from such large, multinational manufacturers for the retail banners of Ahold Delhaize from 2024 onward.

The transaction signed on September 22, 2023, and is expected to close later this year pending customary approvals from competition authorities.

Ahold Delhaize, headquartered in Zaandam (the Netherlands) and listed on Euronext Amsterdam and Euronext Brussels, is one of the world’s largest food retail groups and a leader in both supermarkets and e-commerce. Its family of local brands serves 60 million customers each week, both in stores and online, in the United States, Europe, and Indonesia.
