Learning and Development Assistant

Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton seeks a Learning and Development Assistant to join its Brussels office.

Cleary Gottlieb is a leading international law firm. We have 16 offices in major financial centers around the world, but we operate as a single, integrated global partnership and not a U.S. firm with a network of overseas locations. Our Brussels office, established in 1960, is one of the most prestigious business la practices in the European capital, and is a vibrant workplace, with 92 lawyers from 24 different nationalities and a professional support staff of 78 people. The Learning and Development Assistant will support the Global Learning and Development team on all administrative aspects and contribute to the training curriculum at the firm to ensure attorneys are equipped with skills to excel.

The Learning and Development Assistant must be proficient in English (a good working knowledge of any other European language is a plus), have excellent organizational and communication skills and command of the Microsoft Office suite. 

Regular tasks and responsibilities for this role include:

Training Programs

  • Assisting in the planning, organization and execution of both in-person and virtual trainings for attorneys and professional staff, including sending out invitations, reminders and surveys, tracking attendance, including both local office and regional programming.
  • Liaising with other Firm departments (e.g., catering, facilities, audio/video, IT) to schedule, plan and execute pre- and post-program logistics for both live in-person and online programming.
  • Supporting the Learning and Development team and attorneys in preparing training program materials, and ensure that they are kept updated on the Firm’s online resources.
  • Publicizing the Firm’s training resources within the Brussels office and other global offices as needed.
  • Collaborate with talent teams, practice groups, and training contacts in other offices for multi-office programs and events.

Continuing Professional Development

  • Managing eLearning materials on firm’s Learning &Development platform.
  • Requesting Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits and maintaining a general knowledge of CPD/CLE rules.
  • Publicizing CLE opportunities (both internal and external) and assisting in logistical planning of CLE programming.
  • Monitoring weekly arrivals and departures of lawyers and ensure that all relevant department files are updated.
  • General work and assistance on ad-hoc projects.

Skills and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Fluent in English (both spoken and written). Any other language is an asset.
  • Strong events coordination and organization skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, client service, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exercises good judgment, has excellent organization skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workload and adhere to deadlines.
  • Proactive. Able to work well independently and in a team, plan ahead and push projects forward
  • Experience in a law firm or other professional services environment is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Zoom.
