Giuseppe Scassellati Named Italian Private Equity Lawyer of the Year; Cleary Gottlieb Named Italian Competition Law Firm of the Year by TopLegal

Giuseppe Scassellati-Sforzolini was named Italian Private Equity lawyer of the year at the fifth edition of the TopLegal Awards, held in Milan on November 21, 2011. The judges recognized him as a pioneer in the Italian private equity sector, and noted his involvement in one of the most important PE transactions in the Italian market this year.

In addition, Cleary Gottlieb was named Italian Competition/EU Law Firm of the Year for the second year in a row (last year we won the “Italian Antitrust Law Firm of the Year” award). The jury noted that our Italian competition team represents clients through the firm’s Rome and Milan offices, and that it assisted Eni in winning an appeal regarding the management of a gas pipeline connecting Tunisia to Italy, which resulted in a 93% reduction of the largest antitrust fine ever issued in Italy.
