Cleary Hosts Panel Event for Social Mobility Day

June 15, 2023

On Thursday, June 15, Cleary Gottlieb’s London office hosted a panel event to celebrate Social Mobility Day in the United Kingdom.

Partner Nallini Puri was joined for the panel by Hashi Mohamed, Barrister at No. 5 Chambers and author of People Like Us—What it Takes to Make it in Modern Britain, Gemma Foale Robinson, Managing Associate General Counsel, Litigation and Regulatory Enforcement at HSBC Holdings plc, and Jonathan Douglas, CEO of the National Literacy Trust.

The panellists discussed what we mean when we talk about social mobility, how these issues can impact access to the legal profession, and what law firms and clients can do to address these issues. We were delighted to be joined by clients and representatives from our charity partners for this important discussion.

The event was organized by Cleary’s Social Mobility Working Group in London, a group of lawyers and professional staff committed to removing unintended barriers to law firms, raising awareness of the importance of social mobility, and engaging with secondary schools and pro bono partners to improve access to the profession.
