Cleary Gottlieb was ranked among the top ten most innovative law firms by the Financial Times in its fourth annual U.S. Innovative Lawyers Report, a survey on the state of innovation in the U.S. legal industry. The firm earned two “highly commended” rankings in the inaugural Finance-Latin America category as well as a “standout” and a “highly commended” ranking in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution category.
The research for the report was conducted by RSG Consulting, a legal research group. The rankings were determined through RSG Consulting’s independent research and interviews. RSG Consulting evaluated a record 355 submissions from 59 law firms and conducted 530 interviews with senior lawyers and business executives.

FT 40: The firm placed tenth in the FT 40 - a ranking of the top 40 law firms based on overall scores received in all categories.
Finance-Latin America: Cleary Gottlieb received a “highly commended” ranking for assisting Petrobras in its $11 billion SEC-registered notes offering. Cleary Gottlieb also received a “highly commended” ranking for representing Aerostar Airport Holdings in the leasing and financing in connection with the operation of San Juan Luis Marin International Airport.
Litigation & Dispute Resolution: Cleary Gottlieb’s role defending HSBC Bank against $6.6 billion of Madoff claims received a “standout” ranking. In addition, Cleary Gottlieb’s role arguing for the petitioners in Gabelli v. SEC before the U.S. Supreme Court received a “highly commended” ranking.
