Proposals Specialist

Cleary Gottlieb is seeking a Proposals Specialist to support the Firm’s Global Proposals Team.

Under the direction of the Global Proposals Manager, the Proposals Specialist will be responsible for leading on responses for strategic pitch/panel opportunities, applying proposal best practices and processes, and also for supporting the Partnership and wider Business Development Team on the preparation of client-facing pitch opportunities more broadly.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing, managing and delivering responses to panel pitches and strategic multi-jurisdiction/practice proposals for the Firm.  The role will require taking the partners and lawyers through the entire pitching process from kick-off meeting, through to submission and presentation stage.
  • Overseeing a portfolio of pitches, including drafting and reviewing content from a business development perspective, advising on strategy and messaging, and facilitating meetings to coach lawyers on winning proposals.
  • Developing pitch content that encapsulates a client-centric approach in-line with the Firm’s end-to-end pitching process. Ensuring pitch strategies contain sector/industry information, client research, and competitor analysis.
  • Collaborating with other professional services colleagues, such as the:
  • Profitability, Risk, Conflicts and DE&I Teams to ensure that pitch content includes all required input and information for submission.
  • Business Development and Marketing Technology Teams to implement and maintain pitch information in the Firm’s experience management and pitch system, Foundation.
  • Graphic Design and Word Processing functions to develop new content infographics within the brand guidelines.
  • Creating presentation materials for internal and external clients and writing initial drafts.
  • Assisting the Proposals Managers in coordinating pitch presentation rehearsals, and in providing coaching on style, approach and messaging for the lawyers.
  • Developing and implementing pitch best practices and processes to ensure consistency of delivery and approach to pitching throughout the Firm and to increase efficiencies.
  • Maintaining pitch information, including the firm’s pre-written RFP answer bank and pitch records, in the Firm’s experience management and pitch system, Foundation.
  • Continually developing and looking to innovate the firm’s approach to winning business: conducting feedback calls with clients for submitted proposals, identifying themes from the feedback given and taking appropriate actions.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience of managing pitches, providing advice on approach and strategy.
  • The Proposals Specialist will be expected to have a track record of successfully managing proposals end-to-end in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, the ability to look at a document and spot conflicting pieces of information on the same topic.
  • Effective time and project management skills: proven ability to organize and manage a diverse range of projects, prioritizing multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
  • Being proactive and taking a hands-on approach. Self-starting, enthusiastic and motivated is essential.
  • Fully able to work as part of a team and to liaise with/motivate partners and senior lawyers.
  • Strong understanding of how to deal with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Knowledge or prior experience of Foundation is a plus.
  • Experience in developing best practice and implementing new processes is ideal.
