New Russian Arbitration Laws

On December 29, 2015, the President of the Russian Federation signed a new federal law “On Arbitration (Arbitration Proceedings) in the Russian Federation” together with related amendments to the Law “On International Commercial Arbitration” and amendments to the Arbitrazh Procedure and Civil Procedure Codes.

The new laws will substantially change the legal regime for domestic arbitrations and international commercial arbitrations seated in the Russian Federation. With certain limited exceptions, these laws are scheduled to come into force on September 1, 2016. The linked alert memorandum summarizes the key provisions of the new laws.
