On May 6, 2015, the European Commission (the “Commission”) adopted an important communication entitled “A Digital Single Market Strategy for Europe” (the “Communication”). This initiative is led by Commission Vice-President for the Digital Single Market, Andrus Ansip, and involves a number of Commission Directorates (including DG Connect, DG Internal Market, DG Justice, and DG Competition). Its release comes half-way through the period contemplated for the implementation of the Commission’s 2010 Digital Agenda for Europe, which set out public policy targets for the European digital society until 2020.
