Cleary’s London Office Celebrates City Giving Day with The Entrepreneurial Refugee Network

September 26, 2023

On September 26, Cleary Gottlieb hosted an event with The Entrepreneurial Refugee Network (TERN) to celebrate the Lord Mayor’s City Giving Day in London.

Organized by the Lord Mayor’s Appeal, City Giving Day showcases the philanthropy and volunteering conducted by businesses throughout London to support the communities in which we live and work. This year, Cleary showcased its five-year partnership with TERN, a non-profit that supports newcomers to the UK aspiring to start their own businesses.

Alderman Vincent Keaveny, former Lord Mayor of the City of London, and Cleary partner Maurits Dolmans welcomed guests to the event. Cleary associate Kathryn Collar then joined a panel with two entrepreneurs in TERN’s network to discuss the success of TERN’s OnDemand Free Legal Advice Clinic.

Established in 2019 as a collaboration between Cleary and TERN, the OnDemand Free Legal Advice Clinic assists the refugees in TERN’s networks with their first steps in navigating the complexities of corporate and commercial law in a new jurisdiction and language. Cleary lawyers have assisted with over 50 advice appointments at the clinic since its inception.

In celebration of the diverse refugee-led start-ups in TERN’s network, guests enjoyed a canapé menu created by two catering businesses supported by TERN as well as a musical performance by Syrian composer and conductor Basel Saleh.
