Cleary Gottlieb Named Among the Top 10 U.S. Law Firms in London

May 24, 2021

Cleary Gottlieb has been named among the top 10 U.S. law firms in London in a report from The Lawyer on the top 50 U.S. firms by revenue in the city.

The report lauded Cleary’s “organic growth” over recent years, with several “pure M&A partners, all English, all organically grown.” The report went on to highlight the firm’s recent work on “some standout UK-related matters” advising:

  • Cascade Investment in the recommended cash acquisition of Signature Aviation, as part of a consortium with Blackstone and Global Infrastructure Partners;
  • Euronext in its acquisition of the Borsa Italiana Group from the London Stock Exchange; and
  • Allied Universal in its recommended offer to acquire G4S.

Cleary partner Tihir Sarkar was quoted on how the firm nurtured its growth over the years, saying, “That’s a feature of us becoming more English… it’s more conservative but it’s a safer policy.” The report also noted a significant hire in 2021, bringing former senior director of the Office of Fair Trading Jackie Holland as an antitrust partner, and partners Maurits Dolmans, Nicholas Levy, and Paul Gilbert were spotlighted as members of the firm’s leading European antitrust practice.
