On Wednesday, February 28, Cleary Gottlieb hosted its annual Black History Month Celebration – A Conversation with Actress Yvonne Orji, most known for her role as Molly on HBO’s critically acclaimed series, Insecure.
Over 420 guests attended, including clients, law students, alumni, and minority bar organization members.
Two associates from Cleary’s Black Affinity Group, Deborah Francois and Adrian Ntwatwa, moderated the discussion. Using the Insecure character’s career as a lens, the discussion featured topics such as code switching, the multidimensionality of the black identity, the challenges of race and gender in the workplace, and the role black women – and more generally, black people – play in institutions and the country. Yvonne encouraged attendees to continue to cultivate forums to have conversations around difference and diversity.
