Cleary Gottlieb Honored With Marvin E. Frankel Award

September 7, 2023

Cleary Gottlieb was honored with this year’s Marvin E. Frankel Award for Pro Bono Service by Human Rights First.

The Frankel Award is presented annually to law firms that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to pro bono service, helping Human Rights First achieve justice for refugees in the United States. Cleary is one of just two firms to receive the honor in 2023.

The award is named after Judge Marvin E. Frankel, the co-founder and former chairman of Human Rights First, who was a champion for the human rights movement and helped to develop the pro bono representation program into one of the largest of its kind in the country.

“Cleary is honored to receive the Frankel Award for its work assisting asylum seekers and refugees in the United States,” said Pro Bono Immigration Attorney Ludivine Van der Heyden. “The firm has a longstanding commitment to providing life-saving pro bono legal representation to asylum seekers, and we are truly grateful for our partnership with Human Rights First and its attorneys’ exceptional support. We look forward to continuing to grow this partnership in support of individuals and communities most in need.”

Human Rights First will officially present the awards on October 17 in New York City.
