Cleary Gottlieb held interactive workshops for lawyers and professional staff in its New York and Washington, D.C. offices, “Understanding Transgender and Gender Non-Binary Identities,” led by Avery Belyeu, Regional Director of the South Central Region of Lambda Legal.

Avery is an in-demand educator and facilitator on the topics of sexual orientation and gender identity whose experience spans LGBTQ civil rights and public health. Through professional development coaching, she has trained thousands of professionals across the legal, higher education, and corporate sectors regarding creating a more affirming and welcoming workplace for LGBTQ individuals.

The workshops explored ways to expand inclusivity for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community at Cleary and helped attendees:

  • Enhance their understanding of the LGBTQ spectrum and how to engage respectfully across the Cleary community.
  • Understand the current legal landscape of LGBTQ civil rights in the United States and how it impacts law firms and other organizations working to provide an inclusive and supportive workplace environment.
  • Identify key concepts including sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.
  • Recognize opportunities to apply knowledge on this topic and promote inclusivity at the firm.
