Unbundling-of-Hydro-Network-1200x200

Unbundling rules were introduced in order to remove any conflict of interest between management of gas transmission networks and production/sale of gas that could be injected into the grid.

On August 4th, 2024, the Commission adopted the Fourth Gas Package, which consists of Directive (EU) 2024/1788 and Regulation (EU) 2024/1789 aimed at fostering decarbonization of the EU gas market. The Fourth Gas Package addresses both horizontal and vertical unbundling of hydrogen transmission network operators to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of hydrogen and low-carbon gas markets.
